Q: Why should I buy this soap for more money then the cheap soap at the store??

A: A lot of people do not understand why natural soap is so expensive compared to soap bought at the store. Today's soap sold at the store is actually synthetic (inexpensive detergent used in today's cosmetic cleansers) and therefore not true soap. Most corporations have moved away from the long process of cooking down oils and lye to make real soap.

Q: Why worry about the difference between synthetic soap and real soap?

A: Synthetic soap is harmful to your skin. Sodium Lauryl Sulfate and Sodium Laureth Sulfate, is the inexpensive detergent in today's cosmetic cleansers. It is also the most dangerous ingredient used in today's products. Please take a minute and read this article about  Sodium lauryl sulfate. www.healthy-communications.com/slsmostdangerousirritant.html. Natural and true soap, liquid or hard is made with food grade oils and lye. To make soap even better and give therapeutic values Herbs, Clays and Essential oils are often added.

Q: What are the most dangerous products in today's synthetic soap and why?

A: Go to 10 most unwanted product list to see what is harmful for your skin and why. All these ingredients listed are in today's synthetic soaps and detergents and can cause severe skin problems.

Q: Aren't  natural soaps susceptible to bacteria's and fungus and need a lots of preservatives?

A: No. While synthetic soap are breading grounds for microbial growth and therefore need lots of antibacterial agents as well as preservatives. True soap doesn't suffer from this problem. It possesses a pH level hostile to microbial growth. Preservatives  (if any) used in true soap is often natural (Grapefruit seed extract, Vitamin E ) and therefore not harmful to your skin. However even natural soap has a shelf life. Some oils in soap can become rancid after a while.

Q: How is natural soap made?

A: It takes good cooking skills, a good understanding of safety and lots of patience to make soap. The main ingredients in natural soap are Lye (made from wood ashes) and oils (animal or vegetable). These products when mixed together and cooked cause a chemical reaction that creates the soap. Bar soap, after it has been cooked is poured into molds and cooled down. Once cooled and hardened it is cut and then has to go through a curing time  of  2-4 weeks before it is ready to go on the shelf. Liquid soap requires a 4-6 hour cooking period before changing to a gel state. After it has turned liquid it is mixed with Distilled water and neutralizing agent ( citric acid or Borax). Once finished it needs to rest for 2 weeks before it can be bottled and sold.

Q: What is the difference between Essential oils and Fragrance oils?

A: Essential oils are driven from the plant via steam distilling or cold pressed process. Therefore all the natural and therapeutic benefits are captured in a highly concentrated plant oil. Fragrance oil are often blend of synthetic oils and Alcohol and have no real benefit.
